Gelatos! Have you seen them? Have you played with them yet? They are f.u.n. Watch Shari Caroll do some simple art journaling with Gelatos here.

Dyan Reaveley is such a fun artist to watch on video. I love her personality that shines through in everything she does. This ghosting technique she does using her Dylusions spray inks is one of my favorites. Click here.

This is a fun introduction to mono printing with a Gelli Plate. I have recently started playing with a Gelli plate...you can spend hours (and hours) just playing. If you have crafty children...they will love this too. BTW, cheap paint works great (like the $.69 stuff...go wild! It was one of the most fun things I have ever done with paint)!

Playdough recipe. This is the most wonderful dough I have ever played with...including the store brand! My three-year old is ecstatic! here  Follow up note: it is still her favorite dough! She takes it with her to her friends' houses because they all want to play with it instead of Playdough. It is softer and doesn't dry out quickly. And you can make it any color you want.

Christy Tomlinson is my current favorite mixed media artist! I am fascinated by her process! This is one of my favorite of her videos. Have fun watching!

What do you think?

Hambly screens...what to do with them? I think they are cool...yes I have heard that the company is closing. Darn! I hate to hear that any company has to close. Anyways...I had this idea that started with the Silhouette image catalog. Someone is designing card frames with images welded to it. My thought was "I know how to do that!". So, it wasn't as straight forward as I thought it would be, but I figured it out. I designed it to fit a 3" x 4" card. All those cute journaling cards that Echo Park makes...that was what I was thinking about. Then the Hambly Screen Art card showed up......perfect!

The hardest part of this card was finding the right background paper...something that would let all the intricate designs show up from both the screen and the paper frame.

The Recipe:

I started with a couple of images from the Silhouette library. I drew the rectangle, rounded the corners, then welded the butterfly to the frame. The leaves are from a bird sitting on a branch. I cut the bird part off, then welded the leaves to the frame. Then I created a compound path. Oh...when you weld all the details to the butterfly disappear. Grrrr...so I ungrouped another copy of the image, removed the outside line and then regrouped the inside details...which I just placed on top of my welded image. It works...probably a more elegant way to do this...maybe.

I glued the paper frame to the Hambly screen with Crystal Effects. The "Be Happy" strip is from Echo Park's Hello Summer...the word phrase actually curves the opposite way. It took some finessing, but it works, in my opinion :). The background paper is the new October Afternoon Cakewalk line.

That's it! What do you think? Is it too busy? I am liking it :).
